As a Walkers are Welcome destination, the Vale has varied and good quality walking, with plenty of documented walking routes for you to follow. We also have ideas for your walking or cycling holiday to help you plan your visit.
With unique and welcoming places to stay, friendly and atmospheric places to eat, drink and shop, as well as a lively and varied events scene, there’s a lot for you to enjoy.
The Vale of Pewsey is located in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and is at the heart of the Great West Way, the south of England’s premier touring route.
A wealth of walking and cycling routes is available to you. As well as shorter routes, we also have a selection of multi-day, long-distance routes - the choice is yours!
The Vale of Pewsey is home to two White Horses - giant carvings in the side of the chalk downs - one in Alton Barnes and another in Pewsey.
From prehistoric burial mounds to Victorian heritage, you can enjoy guided tours and dozens of information boards to help you understand the rich history of the Vale of Pewsey.

The Pewsey Vale Tourism Partnership was set up at the end of 2014 following a Tourism Matters event in Pewsey Heritage Centre on 30th September 2014. There was overwhelming support for the implementation of an organisation to promote the Pewsey Vale in a sustainable way.
A number of local businesses joined the Pewsey Community Area Partnership in setting up the Tourism Partnership, which is a not-for-profit organisation.
