The Crown & Anchor at Ham, built in 1840, is a free house and, having been completely renovated, reopened in 2019.  This dog-friendly pub now offers a cosy and welcoming bar, friendly and stylish restaurant, outdoor garden terrace and five beautifully appointed en-suite, bed and breakfast rooms. Cyclists and walkers are very welcome.

The bar is relaxed and comfortable, with reclaimed oak panelling and flagstone floor with antiques and artwork dotted around.  Local ales and good wines are on offer and the Crown & Anchor even has its own beer – Ham 1840 Bitter from Betteridge’s Brewery in Hurstbourne Tarrant.

In addition to a private dining area, the restaurant sits 50 and serves freshly prepared, seasonal, British food, with the emphasis on provenance and quality.

The five en-suite double bedrooms are of the highest standard, equipped with luxurious Hypnos beds and 100 Acre Apothecary bathroom products, made locally in the Cotswolds from the very best, natural botanicals and essential oil. Each room has been decorated differently with antique desks and beautiful lighting and pictures.

It is no surprise that this very popular pub has been listed as one of The Sunday Times’ Top 80 Places to Stay in the UK (2020) and was runner-up in the Best Dog-Friendly Pub in the Sawday’s Pub Awards (2020).

The Crown & Anchor Ham is right in the heart of this very pretty village, not far from Hungerford, Newbury, Marlborough and Pewsey.  There is splendid walking from the doorstep, including our Ham Hill walk, and is well located as a good base for exploring the Vale of Pewsey.
